A Panel Discussion on Prevention, Awareness and Advocacy
Monday, November 19 at 7:30 PM at the Tenafly Middle School
A subject too often hidden away and ignored by mainstream media is the existence of human trafficking, or modern day slavery, in our very own “Garden State” of New Jersey. While the majority of human sex trafficking victims are girls 8 to 18, boys are also victimized. (Undocumented workers are often trafficked to be slave workers.)
NOW NJ is part of a coalition on the State level which is addressing this issue. Assemblywoman Valerie Vainieri Huttle (District 37) has introduced Bill A 3352, “The Human Trafficking Prevention, Protection and Treatment Act.”

Valerie will be keynote speaker at a Forum entitled “STOP Human Trafficking Now: A Panel Discussion on Prevention, Awareness and Advocacy” on Monday, November 19 at 7:30 PM at the Tenafly Middle School. NOW-NJ is co-sponsoring the event with Presenter The League of Women Voters of Northern Valley, and co-sponsors The National Council of Jewish Women and Northern NJ NOW.
There will also be a panel including the following experts: Ingrid Johnson, a nurse and the mother of a victim, will present the personal struggles victims face; Patricia Devine Harms, Chair of the Junior Leagues of New Jersey State Public Affairs Committee, will discuss advocacy and human trafficking; Captain Joe Rampolla with the Park Ridge Police Department, will examine emerging cyber technologies in human trafficking and law enforcement challenges; and Andrew Yeager, Certified School Psychologist and Student Assistance Counselor, will talk about the psychological effects of victimization and exploitation. Ann Moscovitz, Past President of the LWVNV, will moderate the panel.
Tenafly Middle School is at 10 Sunset Lane with a parking lot behind the school. Sunset Lane runs east from Knickerbocker Rd, crosses Jefferson Avenue, and ends in the Middle School Parking Lot. Or, you can take Jefferson north from W. Clinton Ave. or Riveredge Rd. in Tenafly to Sunset Lane on your right. The school is just north of the Roosevelt Commons.
We urge you to attend the Forum on November 19 for a look at what is happening in our State and what we can do to STOP it. The event is free and open to the public.
