sheldrik pIn 1976, as Chapter Coordinator (President) of Morristown Area NOW, Pam actively worked on the issue of the Par-Troy Little League only reaching out to boys, which was against Title IX rules. The issue was resolved, and girls as well as boys were invited to join. During those early years there were two chapters, Morristown Area NOW and Lakeland Area NOW. A force to be reckoned with, Pam was a key member when the two chapters joined together in 1975 to start a Rape Crisis Hotline followed by their involvement in founding the battered women’s shelter now known as Jersey Battered Women’s Service (JBWS). The two chapters became Morris County NOW in 1980.

Pam continued her participation in the chapter. For many years she attended our August meetings bringing feminist publications from her bookstore, Pandora Book Peddlers, reviewing and recommending various books that people of all ages would enjoy. From 2011 through 2019 Pam joined us for our main fundraising event, Gift Wrapping at Barnes & Noble for the holidays. She was a natural after all the years wrapping books at her store. And speaking of the store, it was a blessing during all the years we tabled at Madison’s Bottle Hill Day beginning in October 2004 and until the store closed, as Pam opened her “facility” for us to use as a rest stop. Much better than the alternative Porta Potties. Pam will be remembered for her many contributions to the cause and to Morris County NOW. Pam Sheldrick was a dedicated feminist in every way. She will be sorely missed.
