2009 Essay Contest
Morris County NOW is holding an essay contest for all 7th – 12th graders and homeschoolers of the same level who live or attend school in Morris County. Deadline for Essay submission: Postmarked on or before March 15, 2009 or Emailed by Midnight EST, March 15, 2009. View flyer.
Morris County NOW's 2009 Essay Contest Guidelines
Essay Requirements
- Students will write a short essay describing what they would want to talk about with our new President, Barack Obama, if they had 15 minutes to speak to him privately, and why.
- Essays may not exceed 500 words.
- Essays should be typed and double-spaced to ensure legibility.
- All submissions should include the Student Name's, Address, Contact phone number, and Grade or Grade Level (7-9th or 10th -12th) on a cover page (not counted in word limit).
- Submissions must be free of plagiarism.
- If citations are made, the student may include a reference page at the end of the essay which is not included in the 500 word limit.
- Each student may only submit one essay.
Essay Submission
- Submit your essay electronically in a Microsoft Word or PDF format via email to MorrisCountyNOW@hotmail.com, -OR- by mail to Morris County NOW, P.O. Box 394, Morristown, NJ 07960 on or before March 15, 2009.
- For electronic submissions, all information requested, including contact information, abstract, and essay should be included in a single document.
- Contact information should be on a separate cover page.
Selection of Winners
- One winner will be selected for each age group.
- Members of Morris County NOW will review and score all essay submissions.
- Winners will be informed in April. For essays submitted by a school, teachers will also receive notification.
Contest Eligibility
- The essay contest is open to all 7th – 12th graders and homeschoolers of the same level who live or attend school in Morris County.
- Submissions must be the original work of the student.
- Submissions must answer the selected question.
Important Dates
- Topic Announced: December 15, 2008
- Deadline for Essay submission: postmarked on or before March 15, 2009 or emailed by Midnight EST, March 15, 2009
- Award Announcements: Winners will be informed in April.
- Prizes awarded: May 5, 2009
